Getting to Hannover Airport from Bremen
From Bremen, take the A27 towards Hannover; if you are coming via the A1, switch to the A27 at the Bremer Kreuz interchange. The A27 ends at the Walsrode interchange, where you switch to the A7 towards Hannover. At the Hannover-Nord interchange, take the A352 and leave it at the “Hannover-Flughafen” junction.
By train: The Regional-Express lines RE1 and RE8 run without changing from Bremen Hbf to Hannover Hbf (DB timetable, valid from 14 December 2025). At the main station, change to the S5 to the airport. As both are local and regional services, the Deutschlandticket is valid for the entire journey.
Getting there from Braunschweig, Wolfsburg and Magdeburg (A2 from the east)
From the east, the A2 leads to Hannover. From Magdeburg, drive directly on the A2 towards Hannover; from Braunschweig, for example, take the A391 as far as the Braunschweig-Nord interchange, and from Wolfsburg the A39 as far as the Wolfsburg/Königslutter interchange, and switch there to the A2 towards Hannover. At the Hannover-Ost interchange, stay on the A2 towards Dortmund and take the “Hannover/Langenhagen” junction. From there, the B522 leads north directly to the airport.

By train, you reach Hannover Hbf from Hildesheim with S-Bahn lines S3 and S4, and from Göttingen with the Regional-Express RE2.
By train from the region: change at Hannover Hbf
ICE, IC and regional trains do not run to the airport. The airport station below Terminal C is served by the S-Bahn: regularly by the S5, and for some trade fairs additionally by the S8. If you travel by train from Bremen, Braunschweig, Bielefeld or other cities in the region, you therefore change to the S5 at Hannover Hbf. It departs from there to the airport every 30 minutes.
- Without changing: The S5 runs on the route Paderborn – Hameln – Hannover Hbf – airport (S-Bahn Hannover, timetable from 14 December 2025). The timetable information shows whether your train continues through to the airport.
- Rail ticket to the airport: If you buy your ticket to the destination “Flughafen Hannover” (Hannover Airport), your long-distance train ticket is also valid on the S-Bahn, according to bahn.de. Otherwise, bahn.de recommends a GVH ticket for the S5; the prices are listed further below.
- Deutschlandticket: It is valid on S-Bahn, RB and RE trains, but not on ICE, IC and EC trains (according to bahn.de, as of September 2026). For a section on a long-distance train, you need a separate ticket.
- Engineering works: Construction work can change timetables at short notice. For the RE30, for example, the operator expects further construction work from 2 October 2026. Check your connection shortly before you travel in the DB journey planner.
Hannover Airport by S-Bahn: the S5 to the terminal
Without a car, S-Bahn line S5 is the direct rail link to the airport (Hannover Flughafen – Hannover Hbf – Hameln – Bad Pyrmont/Paderborn). Between the main station and the airport it runs every 30 minutes, and hourly onwards towards Paderborn. Depending on the source, the journey from the main station takes about 15 to 18 minutes: bahn.de gives around 15, the airport around 18 minutes.
- Arrival: The airport station is directly below Terminal C. Lifts and escalators take you up to the departure level; Terminals A, B and C are connected on the landside.
- Terminal D: For flights from Terminal D, you check in at Terminal C and then take a continuous footpath of around 300 metres to the Terminal D entrance.
- Trade fair periods: For some major trade fairs, the S-Bahn also runs the dedicated trade fair line S8 to the exhibition grounds. Depending on the fair, it runs from the airport (roughly hourly for IAA Transportation in September 2026) or only from the main station (for Hannover Messe 2026).
How much does the S-Bahn to Hannover Airport cost?
The S5 uses the GVH fare system (Hannover’s public transport network). According to available information, the airport station is in fare zone B and the main station in zone A – so for this journey you usually need a 2-zone ticket. The zones you need depend on your starting point, though. Check them before you buy.
| Ticket (GVH prices since 1 January 2026, as of September 2026) | Price |
|---|---|
| GVH single ticket, 1 zone | €3.70 |
| GVH single ticket, 2 zones (A+B or B+C) | €4.70 |
| GVH single ticket, 3 zones | €5.70 |
| Deutschlandticket (valid on the S5) | €63 per month |
By bus, taxi or bike to Hannover Airport
Bus line 470 and cycling
Üstra bus line 470 runs every 30 minutes from Hannover-Stöcken via Langenhagen-Zentrum to the airport. The stop is between the Maritim Airport Hotel and car park 3, near Terminal C. If you come by bike, you will find three secure bicycle parking facilities at the airport.
How much is a taxi to Hannover Airport?
From the main station to the airport, you pay around €38 on the meter for a one-way trip. This is based on the taxi tariffs of the state capital Hannover and the Region of Hannover, which are identical for journeys within the region: a base fare of €4.50 and €2.80 per kilometre, plus €35 per hour of waiting time, for example in traffic jams (according to the taxi tariff regulations of the City and Region of Hannover, as of September 2026). The price is per taxi, not per person.
| Worked example (one way) | Distance approx. | Price at Hannover tariff approx. | Return trip approx. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hannover Hauptbahnhof – airport | 12 km | €38.10 | €76.20 |
| Hildesheim – airport | 50 km | €144.50 | €289.00 |
| Braunschweig – airport | 70 km | €200.50 | €401.00 |
Calculated as base fare plus per-kilometre fare under the Hannover tariff (Region of Hannover regulation as amended with effect from 1 August 2025), excluding waiting time and surcharges. Distances are rounded and depend on the route taken.
- Taxi at night: The same tariff applies at night as during the day. The tariff regulations of the City and Region of Hannover do not provide for a night or weekend surcharge.
- Fixed price when booking in advance: If you pre-book a journey within the Region of Hannover by phone, email or app, the taxi company may agree a fixed price that is no more than 10% below or above the metered fare for the shortest sat nav route (the “tariff corridor”). Whether a company offers fixed prices is up to the company.
- Groups and luggage: For a large-capacity taxi with five to eight passengers, or an estate taxi ordered on request for bulky luggage, a one-off surcharge of €6 per journey applies.
- Braunschweig and Hildesheim: Both are outside the Region of Hannover. For the return journey from the airport, the price may therefore be freely agreed before the journey starts, but must not exceed the metered fare; if no agreement is reached, the metered fare applies. For the outward journey with a taxi from Braunschweig or Hildesheim, the local tariff rules apply there, so the price may differ. Ask about the price when you book.
Taxi ranks are located directly outside the terminal exits on the arrivals level – three ranks with around 100 taxis. According to the airport, the ride to the city centre takes around 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
Taxi or drive and park yourself? For a week’s holiday, a return taxi trip from the main station costs around €76 by this calculation, and a multiple of that from Hildesheim or Braunschweig. Shuttle parking with Park King starts at €65 for 7 days (base price Park King P2, Saver rate with key handover, no free cancellation), two people included, plus your own driving costs. Important: Park King does not offer a transfer from your home. You drive to the car park yourself, and from there the free shuttle takes you to the terminal. The search shows the exact price for your travel dates.
Drop-off and pick-up: 10 minutes free of charge
You may stop directly outside all terminals free of charge for up to 10 minutes. A digital system records your number plate on entry; you then pay at the machine. The free period applies to a maximum of two entries per calendar day; from the third entry, the minimum fee is charged. If you stay longer, you pay, according to the airport (as of September 2026), €2 for up to 30 minutes, €3 for up to 45 minutes, €4 for up to 60 minutes and €2 for each additional quarter of an hour or part thereof. More on this in our guide Free parking at Hannover Airport (in German).
Car and parking, S5 or taxi? The comparison
Which way of getting there makes most sense depends on your starting point, the number of travellers and your luggage.
| Criterion | Car + parking (Park King shuttle) | S-Bahn S5 | Taxi |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | base price from €34 (1 day) or from €65 for 7 days, 2 people included | from Hbf €4.70 per person per journey (2 zones, price depends on the zones) or Deutschlandticket | from Hbf around €38 per journey and taxi on the meter (€4.50 base fare + €2.80 per km), plus waiting time in traffic jams |
| Luggage | stays in the car until you reach the car park; bulky luggage (e.g. skis, golf bags) as an extra for €29.99 per item | carry it yourself; lifts and escalators from the station to the departure level | door to door |
| Schedule | drive there whenever you like; your shuttle slot applies for the transfer (can be changed once free of charge with the Shuttle-Flex extra for €9.99) | every 30 minutes from Hbf, check first and last departures | independent, book in good time |
| Best suited for | families, groups, travellers from the surrounding region, lots of luggage | solo travellers with little luggage from the city, Deutschlandticket holders | travellers for whom comfort matters more than price |
Worked example: a week’s holiday for two
Two adults fly for seven days. With the S5 from the main station, the outward and return journeys cost 4 × €4.70 = €18.80 for 2 zones – plus getting to the main station, which adds up, especially if you come from the surrounding region. By car with Park King P2 (Saver rate with key handover, no free cancellation), the base price is €65 for 7 days, with both people and the shuttle transfer to the terminal included. For comparison: on site without a reservation, 7 days in the airport’s multi-storey car parks P4–P6 (Economy rate tier, “Spar”) cost €113, and in the airport’s multi-storey car park P7 (Economy Plus, “Spar-Plus”) €108 (according to the airport’s parking fees valid from 1 September 2026). According to t-online, parking at the airport is usually slightly cheaper when reserved online (as of 22 July 2026). The search shows the exact Park King price for your travel dates.

Tall vehicle? Check the entrance height
According to the airport, the airport’s multi-storey car parks have height restrictions of 2.00 to 2.10 metres (as of September 2026). The outdoor car park P10 (in German) has no height restriction, but is only open seasonally (2026: 15 May to 1 November) and only with an online reservation. The multi-storey car parks accept only debit (EC) or credit cards, no cash. All details are in our overview of the car parks at Hannover Airport (in German). For vans, minibuses and motorhomes, Park King charges a large-vehicle surcharge: a flat €39.99 from November to March; from April to October it depends on the parking price. More on this under Motorhome and van parking at Hannover Airport (in German).
When should you set off? Tips for a stress-free departure
How much buffer you need depends on your airline, destination and day of travel: your airline sets the check-in opening time, the airport is much busier at the start of school holidays, and with shuttle or valet parking you should allow extra time for the handover and transfer. A schedule for working backwards, including HAJway time slots for security screening and evening-before check-in, can be found in our guide How early should you be at Hannover Airport? (in German).
